I have chosen this particular degree to get a better understanding of how technology can be implemented in the classroom. Based on the interaction with other educators, this endeavor will be challenging. Technology cannot be viewed as another imposition that teachers have to tolerate in order to comply with some arbitrary standard. Technology is ubiquitous and children are now dependent on it as part of their day to day communication and interaction. It is imperative that technologists and educators work together to produce alternative uses for technology and make them part of the standard curriculum. I believe that in order to accomplish this task there first needs to be some analysis of how students use technology. A meeting between consultants and teachers is crucial in order to start developing a plan. My goal is to become the bridge the gap between the programming and technology community and the educators. The idea being that once both sides can agree to a unified approach we can begin to plan for a staged approach to this mutual goal. I have included a short video to illustrate how I see this working. The speaker in this video talks about how to engage consultants and how to take an iterative approach to implementing technology. He also points out that educators should not carry this burden and the reasons are obvious. This task is monolithic in scale and requires dedicated staff and consultants to achieve a successful outcome. In an effort to better understand this process I will use this blog to illicit more feedback from educators as I start to develop a strategies for assisting with this important and necessary endeavor.
Great post, Ed! Sometimes technology is received as a burdensome mandate, rather than the sublime tool that it is. Your post was well-written, and your embedded video was a great match. I would like to have seen more reflection on how this concept directly applies to online education. Best of luck out there in the world of technology and pedagogy.
That's true that kids are dependent on being technology literate. I haven't seen that written down before. We always talk in classes about how or why to to use ed tech because kids will need it to function better in the world as adults but the fact is - as you stated in much stronger words - they are dependent. Well put. Your post is refreshing to read.
for Content and Creativity my grade for you is an A because it meets all the criteria of Dr Rezaei's rubric for this assignment
for Voice I also grade you an A: you revealed your definite style, personality, and vision and expressed it clearly
Mechanics: A: no noticeable errors; smooth flow
Text Layout: A: very straight forward - maybe a larger font, I don't know, it was fine
Hyperlinks: no grade: You need to add hyperlinks according to rubric for this assignment
Graphics and Multimedia: A: relevant video; good choice; good summation about it in your post
Citation: no grade: I didn't see any citations - you should add some
Overall, excellent, add hyperlinks and citations and it will be complete
Ed I think this is a great view that you have about including technology in the curriculum. To develop a plan is going to be something that can be a challenge depending where you are presenting this implementation strategy. However, it can be done. You have to have the administration team in that school believe that it will work and that administration team has to have the same shared vision for it to be accomplished. I agree with the video you have in your blog. It is very important that the consultant works closely with the IT director in the school. You will have to develop a plan where you incorporate technology. It is very important to also speak to the department chairs in the school and teachers to see how much knowledge they do have or how they feel about teaching technology in the classroom. You have to gather input from various avenues to develop an efficient plan that can work productively and for a long-term. Overall, this blog was clear, concise and cohesive. I enjoyed it. You meet all the criteria needed in this blog.
