Implementing technology in the classroom

I have chosen this particular degree to get a better understanding of how technology can be implemented in the classroom. Based on the interaction with other educators, this endeavor will be challenging. Technology cannot be viewed as another imposition that teachers have to tolerate in order to comply with some arbitrary standard. Technology is ubiquitous and children are now dependent on it as part of their day to day communication and interaction. It is imperative that technologists and educators work together to produce alternative uses for technology and make them part of the standard curriculum. I believe that in order to accomplish this task there first needs to be some analysis of how students use technology. A meeting between consultants and teachers is crucial in order to start developing a plan. My goal is to become the bridge the gap between the programming and technology community and the educators. The idea being that once both sides can agree to a unified approach we can begin to plan for a staged approach to this mutual goal. I have included a short video to illustrate how I see this working. The speaker in this video talks about how to engage consultants and how to take an iterative approach to implementing technology. He also points out that educators should not carry this burden and the reasons are obvious. This task is monolithic in scale and requires dedicated staff and consultants to achieve a successful outcome. In an effort to better understand this process I will use this blog to illicit more feedback from educators as I start to develop a strategies for assisting with this important and necessary endeavor.

I also found an interesting paper on a framework for strategic decision making. "Implementing Educational Technology in Higher Education:A Strategic Approach" by  Cynthia Roberts, Purdue University North Central. This approach is inline with how I intend to implement technology in education.
